Skyscanner: My Go-To Travel Search Engine

As seen in my previous travel tip post, I am a huge fan of using Skyscanner as my travel search engine. I often get asked how I can travel frequently and for cheap. Well, my response involves this great website. So, when I was approached by Skyscanner to partner with them as an Elite member/ambassador, I was more than thrilled!

Here I will explain why Skyscanner is my go-to travel site and how it fits my traveling technique perfectly.

What is Skyscanner?

Skyscanner is a travel search engine that basically does all the work for you when it comes to finding the best deal. They search within their database of airline and third party travel sites in order to present you with many options for your travel needs. Instead of having ten tabs open looking for the cheapest flight, Skyscanner will consolidate that information for you! You can also search for hotels and car rentals.

What does my partnership mean?

As a Skyscanner Elite, I will be working with their team to announce amazing deals that they discover. I get to network with a website that I truly stand by, which is such a great feeling. It will not affect my readers in any way besides allowing me to gain access to more valuable information to relay to you all. My posts will always remain genuine and travel based. I am excited to work with an outstanding team who loves travel deals as much as I do!

What do I love about Skyscanner?

This is by far my favorite feature to use. My #1 secret to cheap travels is flexibility. I can’t emphasize this enough to people. Skyscanner allows you to search from your base airport (luckily for me there are three major airports near DC) to everywhere in the world. Talk about endless possibilities! You can choose specific dates, a specific month, or the cheapest month.

For example, say I know that I’ll be able to travel for a long weekend from October 13-17. I don’t know exactly where I want to go, but I want to fly somewhere reasonable that won’t break the bank. Well, I’ll use this feature for those specific dates and voila!

I am given a list of countries and corresponding prices. Each option then provides a list of cities/states. From there you click on whatever grabs your attention. It then loads the flight details and booking websites that you can purchase from. Skyscanner draws its information from over 1,200 different websites. So, you know you’re getting the best deal.

This also works in reverse where you can choose a destination and see when is the cheapest time to plan a trip. This can help you save a lot of money if you’re flexible. Usually this means you’ll need to visit during the destination’s off season. Don’t be discouraged, to me that’s usually the best time to go! Avoid those crazy crowds and increased prices. That’ll help you save on both flight and accommodation. The photo to the left shows a search from DC to Paris for the cheapest months available. The search resulted in dates for September, which happens to be my birthday month…is that a sign?
